Connect Four

  • Title: Connect Four Race

    Treatment focus: Strategic thinking, multi-tasking, emotional regulation

    Group size: 2+

    Equipment: Connect Four, Half filled water bottle

    Preparation: Table without chairs, connect four, half filled 16 oz water bottle.

    Treatment objectives:

    Learning how to perform in a high stress situation.

    Multi-tasking

    Emotional Regulation in stressful situations

    Intervention Description:

    You will be divided into two separate teams: yellow and red.

    You have to connect four of the same color in a line; side to side, diagonal, up and down.

    In order to be able to put a token in the blue grid you have to throw the water bottle gently in the air, if it lands upright you can place your colored token into the blue grid. If the water bottle falls over you cannot place your colored token into the blue grid until it lands upright.

    Both teams are doing this at the same time. You are trying to get four of the same colored tokens in a row. You also want to block the other team member from getting four in a row. The first person to get four of the same colored token wins.

    Adaptations:

    You can do this as a group activity as a relay. Divide into teams of 2, 4, or 6.

Color Scavenger Hunt

  • Title: Color Scavenger Hunt

    Treatment focus:

    Group size: 1+

    Equipment: List with colors, pens

    Preparation: Identify what categories you will use during scavenger hunt. (ex. Anything that color, cars, landscapes, animals, etc)

    Treatment objectives:

    Learning to identify different categories of items.

    Association of items with colors

    Intervention Description:

    Create a list of colors (Blue, black, green, brown)

    Create a list of categories (decide how many items you want in each categories)

    Decide your location (park, mall, school)

    Adaptations:

    Adapt categories to be as simple or more complex.

Jellyfish Bracelets

  • Title: Jellyfish Bracelets

    Treatment focus: Fine motor skills, friendship, communication

    Group size: 1+

    Equipment: Paper/cardboard, string, scissors, cup

    Preparation: Use the cup to draw a circle on the paper/cardboard. Cut a hole in the middle of the paper. Cut five slits in the circle. Take the string and put it through the hole and tie a knot at the bottom. Next, separate the string and put them into the slits on the circle except one. Start crossing the string over every third string. The bracelet will begin to form. Repeat this until your desired length of bracelet.

    Treatment objectives:

    Learning fine motor skills.

    Learning to follow instructions

    Intervention Description:

    Rules:

    Use the cup to draw a circle on the paper/cardboard.

    Cut a hole in the middle of the paper.

    Cut five slits in the circle.

    Take the string and put it through the hole and tie a knot at the bottom.

    Next, separate the string and put them into the slits on the circle except one.

    Start crossing the string over every third string.

    The bracelet will begin to form. Repeat this until your desired length of bracelet.

    Title: Road Duct Tape

    Treatment focus: Strategic Thinking, problem solving

    Group size: 1+

    Equipment: Road Duct Tape, Small Cars

    Preparation: none

    Treatment objectives: Specify a patient/client tx plan.

    Intervention Description:

    Use the road duct tape to make a maze, road ways, or anything that comes to mind.

    Adaptations:

    Have client/patient draw out a map on a piece of paper and have them follow the map and put the design on the floor.

Roll the Ball - Asking Questions

  • Title: Conversation Skills Building - Rolling a ball

    Treatment focus: Communication

    Group size: 1-4 people

    Equipment: Ball

    Preparation: Ball

    Treatment objectives:

    Helping to learn how to ask appropriate questions in a social setting.

    Intervention Description:

    Go over and review subjects/topics that individuals might ask in a social/group setting. (Hobbies, Family, Interests, Sports, Books, Movies, Favorite Foods, etc)

    Review over topics that are not appropriate for social/group settings.

    Have participants sit in a circle or across from each other and roll the ball to someone else in the group. The person rolling the ball will be asking the question and the person receiving the ball will answer the question. After the question has been answered the person who answered will roll the ball to the next person and then ask a question. Repeat this process.

    Try and give each person in the group a couple turns to ask and answer the questions.

Keepy Uppy

    Treatment focus: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, attention span

    Group size: 1+

    Equipment: Balloons

    Preparation: none

    Treatment objectives:

    Intervention Description:

    Blow up the balloon.

    Choose a different body part (left hand, elbow, knee, etc) that is the only part that can hit the balloon.

    Object of the game is to keep the balloon in the air for as long as possible.

    Adaptations:

    Divide into teams

    Set a time limit

Yoga Add On

  • Title: Yoga Storytelling - Add on edition

    Treatment focus: Story telling, communication, and body movement.

    Group size: No limit

    Equipment: Yoga Mats (optional), paper, writing utensils. Yoga poses handout

    Preparation: Yoga mats.

    Treatment objectives:

    Learning to communicate.

    Having to get up in front of a group and complete and teach a task.

    Intervention Description:

    Have someone start with a story while demonstrating a yoga pose.. (The dog ran away from his master..)

    The next person will repeat what the first person said while the whole group is demonstrating the yoga pose. The next person will add on to the story and demonstrate the yoga pose (The big dragon was the dogs best friend)

    Continue adding to the story and demonstrating yoga poses until everyone in the group has had a turn.

    See how creative you can be.

    Adaptations:

    Be as creative and silly as you want.

Chair Soccer

  • Title: Chair Soccer

    Treatment focus: Teamwork, communication,

    Group size: minimum of 6

    Equipment: Chairs and Soccer Balls

    Preparation: Set up a perimeter, set up chairs for both teams like setting up foosball, Goals and set up chairs in opposite rows like chart below.

    Treatment objectives:

    Learning to communicate together

    Learning to work as a team

    Exercise.

    Intervention Description:

    Rules:

    All four legs of the chair must remain on the ground at all time.

    Participants backside must remain on the chair at all times, but can move side to side to kick the ball.

    You may only kick the ball if following the rules above.

    No using hands to touch the ball, only legs (knees are okay) to touch the ball.

    You must attempt to block and defend the ball.

    Set the timer for 10 minutes and play 3 different rounds.
